On a morning made for football the Kilmacud Crokes And Naomh Olaf's teams did not disappoint as they put on a thrilling match for those watching. From start to finish the game was enthralling as Crokes dominated early with some fantastic points from both the foot and hand. At half time Crokes went in ahead on match points and on the all important skill points. Olaf's came back well in the second half but failed to take the lead with Crokes putting in another excellent display of point scoring and an even better displaying of blocking. The blocking on display was superb and every bit as good as was in some of the later U10's games which is a real tribute to the players. The final match score was Crokes 27(9 points) to Olafs19(1-6). More importantly Crokes won by a huge margin on skills points with 11 to Olafs 3. The players Davy Colbert, John Gilsenan, Louis McGauran, Rory O'Kane, Matthew Blanker, James Hamill, Keelan Murphy, Eoin Keyes and Ruairi MacDonnacha should be very proud of themselves - the mentor's certainly are.
KC1 Panel B had a comprehensive win against Naomh Olafs, on a beautiful Saturday morning in Stepaside. The first half was a close affair for the opening 15 mins, with KC losing by a single point as a result of 2 well taken points by Olafs – but KC reacted brilliantly and scored 4 points before the interval, giving them a healthy half time lead. Dylan and Jack had strong performances in goal (no goals conceded), with Danny and the two Hughs creating and scoring a lot of chances, up front. Rory had a great half in the midfield and was won plenty of ball, and kept feeding the forwards with passes.
In the 2nd half, the goalkeeping duties were shared by the two Hughs with Rory and Danny locking up the defence. Olafs didnt get any scores in the second half! Jack and Eoin played in midfield and dominated the opposition, with very little ball getting past them. The forwards (or front five) ran riot in the second half, with Dylan and Ryan causing loads of problems for the Olaf defence and raining in plenty of shots. Joshua (captain on the day) was also constantly involved and finished up with a hat trick of points. The final score was KC 4 goals, 9 points and 5 bonus points (36) to NOlafs 0 goals, 2 points, 3 bonus points (9).
The lads started the game well and got on the score board with a score from a free followed almost immediately by a well taken goal. Due to our lads dominating mid field we had a succession of chances but due to some wayward shooting we failed to capitalise. The olafs lads started to settle and despite good defensive work by our backs they scored a goal and 2 points. Our lads rallied again and led at half time 2 - 3 to 1 - 2.
Our lads started the second half very strong and soon extended their lead, they worked really hard on their blocks and marking their men which ensure the olafs lads struggled to gets scores. The game finished with a well deserved win for our lads, their team work and some great point taking were the foundation for their victory.Well done to Captain Eoin Kenny, Jack Burke ,Jamie O Shea , Gearoid Fitzgerald , Tomas Noone , Evan Crowley ,Vova O Toole and Diarmuid Deegan.
