Report Week Ending 16th October 2011
On 12th October 2011 at the grand old age of 102 Martin White passed on. To his family and many friends Kilmacud Crokes Hurling expresses it sympathy. Martin, a multiple All-Ireland medallist with his native Kilkenny, was a true Crokes legend and vice-President of the club. As trainer, chairman and officer he was one of the mainstays of the Crokes Hurling Club from the late 1940’s. Most recently he visited Glenalbyn for the 2009 All-Ireland Hurling 7’s. For report on this visit see HERE.

On field the under 14A’s completed the Dublin double by claiming the Division 1 title following a 5-13 to 3-4 win over St Vincents at Pairc Naomh Uinseann. A goal splurge helped the visitors to a 4-3 to 0-3 interval lead. Stars included Fiachra Tucker, Cathal Keane, Johnny Maher, Brian Grogan and Fergal Whitely.
Panel:
A Considine, F Tucker, M O’Rourke, K Lannigan, C O’Dwyer, C Keane, J Maher, D Butler, T Fox, B Grogan, A Tuck, S O’Dwyer, F O’Connor, F Whitely, C O’Cleirigh and S Gorman.
In their final Division 2 game against St Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh, Crokes under 14B’s had the better of the first half aided by a brace of goals from Donal Callaghan and one from Conor Walsh. Stephen McEntee, Conor Kelly, Eoin Sheehy and Mattie Hogan contributed points. However, Plunketts played themselves back into the game to leave Crokes leading 3-4 to 2-2 at the break. Impressive displays from Sheehy and McEntee provided the platform for Crokes to notch up further goals from Calum Pearson from a 65 and one for Oisin Doherty. Doherty and Hogan also tacked on points too. At the final whistle Crokes won by 5-6 to 2-9 to finish the league comfortably mid-table.
Performance of the weekend had to be the under 13A team’s Saturday afternoon win over Ballyboden by the minimum in the first division. This was an extraordinary match. Crokes were down 16 points at half time and came back to win by point in the last minute, Crokes 5-07, Ballyboden 3-12. For pictures click on the flashing camera or see HERE
The under 16’s received a walk over in their Shield game from Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh.
Sunday 16th October 2011
Both minor teams had round robin assignments.
The Minor A’s returned from Moibhi Road with an 0-14 to 1-11 draw against Na Fianna. The homesters opened in determined fashion and led 0-8 to 0-4 at the short whistle. A multiplicity of Crokes wides did not help their cause. With ten minutes to go as they trailed by three it looked grim for the southsiders. Dogged application on the part of Matthew Geraghty resulted in a great goal and the sides were level. Thanks to three quick points in succession from substitute Conor O’Dwyer, Caolan Conway and Ken Kelly Crokes looked to have secured the points as the game entered its fifty sixth minute. Na Fianna came again and with three overs of their own, the last from a long range free in injury time, ended with a share of the spoils. For report see HERE
Team:

Minor B's: Silverpark on a lovely Sunday October 16th was the setting for the Minor Bs must win championship game (2nd Round-Robin) vs Erins Isle.
Crokes obtained a critical win in fine style having played intelligent and direct hurling throughout the game. Score of the first half was CJ ODwyers searing run and finish to the net from a tight angle but an advantage of 4 points (1-7 to 1-3) seemed an unjust reward for their earlier efforts.
However in the second half, notwithstanding a slight wind advantage, the Finglas lads were overcome by an absolutely resolute Crokes defence and productive forward line. Using their full quota of 20 players Na Crocaigh competed effectively all over the pitch and also reinstated their championship ambitions.
All 20 players made telling contributions – a defence that conceded only 2 points in the second half and a mobile forward line that created an abundance of chances, characterised by Odhran O’Siochru's point taking.

The under 15B’s trip to Rush on Sunday 16th October 2011 for the C Shield final against St Maurs did not result in silverware. Crokes held their own for most of the first half but the concession of two goals late on saw then go in 0-5 to 2-6 in arrears. Within five minutes of the restart another major put daylight between the sides and despite their best efforts the Stillorgan boys could not reel in the locals as it finished 3-14 to 0-7. Leading performers included Ruairi Geraghty, Eoin Sheehy, Niall Sweeny, Andrew Porter and Colin Smyth following his second half introduction.

Friday 14th October 2011
The 2011 under 15A final, played at Parnell Park under lights in Friday 14th October, ended in disappointment for Kilmacud Crokes as they were comprehensively outplayed by an impressive Na Fianna, who in the process avenged their 2010 Dublin Feile final defeat.
A blistering opening half saw the Moibhi Road lads 4-5 to 0-3 clear at the break. While Crokes added 1-4 to the opposition’s 1-3 thereafter, the result was never in doubt. This was one of those occasions where the losers never got out of traps and were unable to match opponents at the top of their game. A learning experience and motivation for next year.
Team:
Tadgh Murphy, Mark O’Rourke, Ryan Murphy, Cillian O’Shea, Francis O’Reilly, Mark McCallion, Des Dagg, Sean Crowe, Fiachra O’Connor, Shane Veale, Eamonn Allen, Peter Herlihy, Michael Crowley, Sean Keating (1-3, f-1, 65-1), Daniel Coakley (0-3). Subs Alex Considine (0-1) for M Crowley (10 min inj), Conor Gowing for Shane Veale (half time), Cian O’Connor for A Considine (40 min), Eoin Keane for M O’Rourke (45 min), Lorcan Tucker for D Dagg (50 min, inj), Tom Duke and Eoin McMahon.
