Dolphin Park played host to the intermediates in AHL3 against Kevins.  The teams were neck and neck at the short whistle, Crokes trailing 0-7 to 1-3.  A return of two points in a low scoring second period was not enough to yield a dividend as Kevins won 0-11 to 1-5.  Best for Crokes were Dave Canny, Damien Byrne, Michael Dalton and Mark Coghlan.  For report see HERE

The concession of a goal at the start of each half was probably the decisive factor in the AHL5 game against Lucan Sarsfields played at a balmy Silverpark.  Despite the initial setback the Kilmacud side led 0-6 to 1-2 at the interval, the scores coming exclusively from the placed ball accuracy of Dara Burke.  A similar opening to the second period knocked them back on their heels but within nine minutes Crokes had regained the lead, 0-9 to 2-2.  This was thanks to a well placed puck out from Paddy Tighe, excellently fielded by Conor Caulfield who set off on an incisive run that resulted in a white flag.

Unfortunately Crokes could not maintain the momentum as Lucan hit a purple patch with three unanswered overs and might have been more than 2-5 to 0-9 ahead except for a great save by the minor goalkeeper.  Crokes brought it back to parity 0-11 to 2-5 with ten minutes remaining.  Lucan, however, finished more productively, if not necessarily having the territorial advantage, and pulled away to win 3-8 to 0-12.  Apart from the players already mentioned Cian O’Brien, Joe Walsh, Barrai Brennan, Ger Geoghegan and John Ross Hunt had their moments.

Team:

P Tighe, P Ryan, J Walsh, C O’Brien, D Staunton, B Brennan, D McAuliffe, C O’hUaireagain, G Geoghegan, C Caulfield (0-2, f-1), JR Hunt (0-1), S Canny, K Russell, P Ruth, D Burke (0-9, f-7, 65-1, pen-1).  Subs: S Boyd for P Rath (25 min inj), F Hanley for S Canny

The Junior E’s had better fortune in their AHL8 opener at the Leopardstown venue immediately afterwards.  Na Fianna were unable to muster more than the minimum thirteen required.  Player manager, Ian O’Keeffe, opened the scoring with a point from the first attack.  Three minutes later Daire Brennan struck for the opening goal.  The Moibhi Road team’s eleventh minute goal brought them a short lived reprieve at 1-3 to to 1-1.  This simply prompted Crokes to up the ante.  By half time they were 3-10 to 1-1 clear.  The second installment followed an even more traumatic course for the visitors as they went down 6-24 to 1-2.

Team (13 a side):

H Liston, H O’Connor, B Halpin, N McIntyre, A Crean, L Whelan, S Rouse, C O’Callaghan, D Brenna, N Martin, M Lynskey, I O’Keeffe, C Thornton.  Subs: C Keegan for S Rouse, C Maher for C Thornton, G Hyland for B Halpin, B Hourigan for D Brennan.

In Pairc de Burca the under 13’s entertained Midleton on their way home to the rebel county from a weekend in Belfast.  A blistering opening helped Crokes to a 5-8 to 2-4 win.
