KILMACUD YOUNG GUNS CLAIM HISTORIC MINOR TITLE
Its a rare achievement to win a National Féile title and progress as a group to win your countys minor championship crown four years later! That was the feat achieved by an excellent, and excellently coached, Crokes minor team today as they defeated a gallant St. Sylvesters in a thrilling (2012) Co. Final. The high-quality pitch and surrounds in Parnells GAA Club provided a fitting environment for an absorbing game, a tale of two halves for sure. Playing some great combined football, Crokes led by 0-5 to 0-2 at the break.A fightback was clearly signalled by the Malahide lads with a quick point on the restart. They fought gallantly to the end and had Crokes on the back foot for much of the half, to almost breaking point towards the finish. Nevertheless, at one stage they found themselves 0-10 to 0-3 behind and also found the Crokes rearguard in a hell of a mean mood! They did manage 5 points on the trot towards the end, mostly from frees, but it proved too little too late.
In the end, Crokes emerged most deserving winners on a 0-10 to 0-8 scoreline and they celebrated entusiastically - this was sweet! A great result for the club .... and for Dublin based on the fine group of players on view from both sides! Congrats lads and keep up the good work that has taken you thus far; youve a bright future ahead!
