Great Stuff at the First Go Games of 2015

U8 Match Report from Owen McCabe, Mentor
On probably the best day of 2015 so far, the U8's started their Go Game campaign with an away fixture against Cuala (Sunday 22nd March). We had over 40 very keen girls which were split between four very enthusiastic teams. The excitement before kick-off was palpable, and that was only the mentors! Cuala fielded three teams, and some of our girls played a half with them to even out the numbers. The girls all played really well - great foot and handpassing, lovely link-up play and some fine scores. Everybody - players, parents and coaches - were buzzing at the end. All-in-all, a great start to the campaign!
U9 Match Report from Majella Murphy, Mentor
A fantastic start to our Go Game season as 20 girls descended on Ballinteer and 11 took a trip to Cuala on Sunday morning last. The larger pitch and straight 20 minute games for u9s suited our girls very well, but even our most athletic players were gagging for sideline duty at the end of the 20 minutes. Such a healthy sight to see so many red faces, girls peeling off layers, lying on their backs, guzzling down water, seeking out the shade – evidence that they played their hearts out and each contributed massively to the game.
Our defence was utterly superb on Sunday – our girls stuck close, swarmed around the opposition and prevented them from doing what they wanted to do; they kept their positions well and kept their composure when the ball was in close to the goals, clearing it well out to the wings and back up the pitch. Teamwork was also magnificent, with girls getting into position to receive a pass from a teammate and there were so many occasions where our girls won the ball in midfield and brought it straight to a score/score attempt without losing possession. Maith sibh, a chailini!
