Crokes' 2011 successes honoured in style!

Body

On Saturday 25th February the Committee of the Hurling Section hosted an evening in Glenalbyn to honour the hurling successes which had been brought to the club in 2011.  Almost 200 guests filled both the downstairs and the upstairs dining areas to capacity and enjoyed dinner and speeches. Compered by Chris Thompson, the committee honoured the achievements of the senior, intermediate, junior E and minor teams, who were all presented with their medals by Anthony Daly, bainisteoir of the Dublin Senior Hurling Team.

With the National hurling League Trophy on prominent display with the other silverware, the Hurling Committee were proud to honour the following achievements;

Intermediate Team; County Intermediate Champions and League winners.

Junior E; beat Skerries Harps in Junior E final

Minor Team; Won County Minor Championship for third year running

Club Chairman Tom Murphy welcomed the guests and this was followed by an expertly assembled photo slide show, played to specially selected music, compiled by Diarmuid O Gallchobhair, from approximately 45,000 action photos he took of Crokes matches last year (only a very small selection were shown on the night!). This slide show, together with the complementary photo video montage of the various teams' progress through 2011, can now be ordered on a single DVD! For more click HERE!

Anthony Daly presented the medals and Brendan Sweeney reminded the membership about the upcoming Punchestown Race Day fund raiser on April 25th; a date for everyone's diary.  Hurling section Chairman Peter Walsh then gave a rousing speech on the goals and challenges ahead for the extended Crokes hurling family, before Anthony Daly rounded off the evening with a typical iconic speech, which contained wit, humour and a firm challenge to the club to capitalise on underage success, by delivering a Senior County Title in the near future.

Special mention to Mick Hynes and Barry Mulligan, who both attended despite their recent family bereavements.

The enjoyable awards ceremony adjourned to some raucous craic in the club bar, as the guests partied on well after the formalities had ceased.  Many thanks to the Hurling committee for organising a fantastic evening.
