CROKES SURRENDER CROWN IN SFC DAMP SQUIB

It was not to be for Crokes at a wet and dreary Parnell Park yesterday evening. The football was not up to the expected standard and we lost our Dublin and Leinster crowns rather tamely to the disappointment of players and supporters alike. The 4-month break since our last outing against Thomas Davis didn't help; neither did the injury list to which Adrian Morrissey was recently added, then midfielder Paddy Duggan within the first 5 minutes! Still, the boys proceeded to dominate the first half and were 4-1 up on 29 minutes despite missing 2 glorious goal opportunities.

Resuming 4-2 down after the break, Brigids upped their game and pushed on to take an 8-6 lead with 5 mins left. Duggan's absence from midfield was sorely felt at this stage. There were further chances for Crokes including a late Mark Vaughan goal attempt, hoping to add to his earlier 4 points. However, he was denied (once again!) by man of the match, Shane Supple at the expense of a ‘45' which the in-form Crokes man converted. With time almost up, never-say-die Crokes kept chasing an elusive score but Brigids held out for a well-deserved win on an 0-8 to 0-7 scoreline. They will now fancy their prospects of a first Dublin title since 2003; we wish them well!
